My Dad, Paul was an eccentric, loved, local character in Manly. He would take a morning swim every day. Even through winter. He loved a chat with anyone and everyone. His catch cry, that he would pass on with infectious enthusiasm was – “Your health is your wealth”.
Unfortunately for Dad his health let him down and on a beautiful November morning Dad took his last swim, ate a mango then suffered a massive heart attack. Not a bad way to go but years too early.
I was put in contact with the first person on the scene who took the time to relay the experience which brought some comfort, but also a realisation that more could have be done.Read more
The reality is that Dad was only one of more than 30,000 Australians each year who die of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and I was one of more than 30,000 loved ones who received the phone call we all dread.
I discovered though, that it doesn’t need to be this way. Whilst in Australia only 10% of people survive SCA incidents – this could be as high as 75%. The difference between these numbers is a $2,000 to $3,000 investment from someone who cares – in a defib.
We are here to help more people make a life-saving investment in a defib and to ensure that when they spend the money their investment is rewarded with a device that is most likely to save someone’s life.
We were dismayed to learn that you can spend good money on a device that (while better than nothing at all) is more expensive, harder to use and inferior technically to the devices we stock.
We’ll give you everything you need and nothing that you don’t. We won’t try and upsell you on cabinets (unless you need one), first aid kits or face to face training (If you want this there are great organisations that provide it, but we aren’t one of them).
We’ve identified the one, single, sole, lone thing that we can do to help more people like my Dad live longer – Get more accessible defibs in the community – and we do that better and cheaper than anyone else.
